Building on the success of a number of past projects for the University of Oxford and Laing O’Rourke, C G Reynolds Ltd were engaged early in the tender process, to offer design and feasibility advice 12 months prior to starting any onsite activity.
The aim of the building was to bring the various departments of the Mathematical faculty at the University of Oxford, under the same roof for the first time in their history.
We identified the importance of design and in particular, the high acoustic requirements of the project. Utilising our relationship with a systems manufacturer we were able to offer advice at this early stage, meeting the client’s budget whilst providing necessary support in creating offsite mock-ups and performance testing. This ensured that the design met the aspirations and performances of the designers and the finish to exceed the client’s expectations.
We offered the complete dry lining and ceilings package spread across two basement areas, including three lecture theatres with feature ceilings, seminar rooms, a large mezzanine break out space, five floors of offices, meeting rooms and an underground car park.
Our works also included the construction of the partitions. The ceilings were constructed using acoustic plasterboards; Rigitone and Quattro, to achieve varying acoustic performances. Additionally we carried out external render works and 4300m2 insulation to the soffit of concrete basements.
