CG Reynolds Ltd ensure all those who are directly employed or part of our subcontractor team have the required skills, training and qualifications to be able to complete their job to our core values and targets of high quality work. A key factor in order to meet minimum standards and job requirements, and more importantly to maintain our excellent Health & Safety record.
As a business it is also important that we recognise that training and development is more than that! People have aspirations to develop and progress within their career, this is usually identified at the annual performance appraisals, if not before at progress meetings. Where possible we accommodate all training and learning requests because we know that our people matter!
Our aim is to recruit apprentices/trainees in Drylining annually. This offers opportunities to local young people and help build our workforce, developing a highly skilled team to deliver the same levels of quality throughout the business and regardless of project.
Having our own bespoke Training Centre means we can showcase skills and expertise of existing colleagues, sharing them with our trainees.
Where possible we also offer an opportunity for a Plastering apprentice.
Both opportunities secure a level 2 apprenticeship/qualification in a recognised trade. Apprentices will be given support from a mentor on site.
Other apprenticeships we have offered include Business Administration and Accounts.
These opportunities afford successful candidates with the skills and training to become competent Site Managers. Routes to qualification can be a Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4) or via study at University to gain a Degree. CG Reynolds will support the candidate in their chosen route both financially and pastorally.
Commercial Trainee schemes allow development of such roles as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator. Support will be offered again financially and pastorally. There are different qualification routes and as a business this learning journey is a partnership led by the trainee ensuring that the route chosen is what they are more suited to whether that be College, Distance Learning or University.
Our bespoke training centre is a safe training environment where the apprentices can learn all about Drylining, learn how to use the appropriate tools and develop skills without mistakes having an impact on a live site.
Since 2018 we have recruited four cohorts of Drylining Apprentices, and two Plastering Apprentices.
To date four Drylining Apprentices and one Plastering Apprentice have successfully completed their programmes, gaining a Skilled CSCS card and are now working on site, where their learning journeys continue and skills are further developed.
Five apprentices are awaiting their End Point Assessment, once completed they too will be integrated within the business where their learning journeys continue, further developing their skills and experience. The remaining apprentices are still completing the initial training.
"I was part of the first batch of apprentices that CG Reynolds took on. Having no prior experience in any sort of trade or construction work, the company trained me to pass an NVQ in drylining. I was placed into a gang working on a student accommodation building, putting up Metsec. This quickly became my favourite part of the job and I continued to work alongside the same gang for the following two years of my apprenticeship on a number of jobs, participating in the installation of both SFS and drylining. When I passed my NVQ, CG Reynolds offered me a job as a fixer, working directly for the company, which I was more than happy to accept. I have continued to work for CG Reynolds since then and have no plans to go anywhere else." Nick Dunn (Completed Apprenticeship 2020)
