Building on from our successful University of Oxford projects with Laing O’Rourke the Blavatnik School of Government is the latest addition to our successful track record within Oxford.
With early engagement within the Laing O’Rourke tender process this enabled C G Reynolds Ltd to bring our experience to the table which assisted in effective VE solutions to the design culminating in the construction of an offsite mock-up of typical offices and lecture theatres which would lead the way in our onsite operations. The project briefly consisted of two basement levels with an open forum space, 2 lecture theatres and 4 seminar rooms, a feature atrium with sprayed acoustic plaster, kitchen and dining areas on the Ground floor and 5 further floors of office and meeting room space. Working collaboratively with the design team we were able to overcome complicated interface details with the curved external facade and internal glazed partition.
One of the largest challenges to the project was the spraying of the 20m High Atrium with integrates with each and every floorplate differently, working in a live building site it was essential that we carried out the works safety and with minimum disruption to other trades. This was achieved with effective planning and communication with the Laing O’Rourke team. CGR completed on time and achieved the very high quality standard set to the delight of the contractor and client team.
The Blavatnik Building was one of two buildings completed by CG Reynolds during 2015/2016 recognised by the RIBA awards. See what RIBA’s architecture.com had to say on the Blavatnik Building on the link below:
